The Best Executive PhysicalsThe executive physical was originally designed for busy business
executives who simply didn't have time to make multiple trips to
multiple doctors' offices, to get a comprehensive physical. As such,
the executive physical is traditionally completed in just one day. Now
executive physicals are used by busy people in every field, but they
must decide which type is best.
The Traditional Executive Physical-
The traditional executive physical includes everything needed to get a
comprehensive look at the individual's health. The physical is used as
a means of screening for treatable disease and cancer, as well as a
means of working toward disease prevention. The traditional executive
physical includes:
-- a medical history (including: medication, immunization and social history review),
-- a physical examination (including: height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, heart rate, body fat percentage, body/mass index, exam of ears, nose, throat, eyes, and head, hearing screening and visual screening),
-- laboratory testing (including: comprehensive metabolic panel, complete blood count, lipid panel test, HgA1c test, cardio-CRP test and TH4 and blood glucose tests, urinalysis and testing for prostate-specific antigen in the blood),
-- if needed, an EKG and spirometry lung function test, and
--
an assortment of radiology testing (tests may include: carotid
ultrasound, aorta ultrasound, lower extremity with ABI ultrasound,
echocardiogram, CT cardiac calcium scoring, DEXA bone density scan, CT
lung scan, MRI of the brain without contrast, colonoscopy and a cardiac
stress test), The Presidential Executive Physical-
This type of executive physical was modeled after the physical the U.S.
President has performed each year. It includes everything that is
typically performed in the traditional executive physical but includes
other tests that are specifically designed to detect cardiac disease.
These include:
-- a carotid duplex ultrasound and
-- an ultrasound with ankle-brachial-index testing.
In
addition, the CT cardiac calcium scoring testing is mandatory for this
test (as opposed to optional for the traditional executive physical),
as it screens more accurately for heart failure risk factors. The Senior Executive Physical-
The senior executive physical was specifically designed for those over
the age of 50. It includes all of the testing in the presidential
executive physical, but it continues to screen for other age-related
diseases not screened for in the other two tests. Additional screening
tests included in the senior executive physical are:
-- DEXA bone density imaging to screen for osteoporosis,
-- lung CT scanning to screen for lung cancer, and
-- MRI of the brain to screen for changes in the brain that can be correlated to dementia.
