Wash
your hands and your children's hands. Washing hands is the best defense
against flu virus and other germs. Wash your hands for twenty seconds.
Teach kids to wash their hands for as long as it takes to sing "Happy
Birthday".
Use
hand sanitizer. When washing hands is not an option, use hand
sanitizer. Take it with you wherever you go. Teach children to rub
hands together until the sanitizer is dry and to keep hands out of
their mouth.
Use
disinfectant wipes on carts and other surfaces. Many stores now provide
wipes to wipe down shopping cart handles. Use them. If your store
doesn't provide them, take your own.
Teach
children to cough into their sleeve to avoid the spread of germs. When
they sneeze or wipe a runny nose, use a tissue and dispose of it.
Keep
children out of daycare situations if possible. If daycare is
unavoidable, ensure that toys and other surfaces are being wiped down
several times a day with disinfectant wipes. Remind children not to
share drinks or other utensils.
