Top 10 Places to Visit in SingaporeA
bustling city where twenty-four hours seems to flash by your eyes. If
you are not quick enough, you might just miss the sights, sounds and
flavors of Singapore.
Singapore is a cocktail of culture where you can find almost anything about Asia. The good, the bad and the ugly.
Here's my top 10 list (not in any order):
1. The Esplanade. It's
a place for arts and cultures. The international events organized is
not to be missed. One of them is Womad. An international music event
featuring acclaimed artist that is held yearly. You'll be treated with
high class performances.
2. China town. There is a China
town in most, if not all, country in the world. Here you will find
Chinese artifacts, culture and food. The landscape and buildings
reflects its heritage. After a long walk around China town drop-by a
Chinese massage parlor to relieve your aching feet and body.
3. Arab Street. This
is where Middle Eastern and Malay cultures come alive in the streets.
If you love Kabab's and other Middle Eastern cuisine, you will find
yourself spoilt for choices. The smell of these delicacies will surely
make you salivate. Textile shops are predominant in this area. I
believe many of them came from a tradition of traders who traveled from
the Middle East to trade. Another gem that you can find here are
perfume oils. Pure perfume oils which compliments any occasion or
event. It's a perfect gift for the love ones.
4. Little India. We've
walk-through a China town, Arab street and now another Little India, an
Indian town, to complete the multi-racial facade that is distinctly
Singapore. Painted with spices, the streets are lively in the day and
at night. Here you will find the one and only twenty-four hour shopping
centre in Singapore. Mustafa Centre is where you can get just about
anything under one roof. If you are not tired from your day just
drop-by Mustafa Centre or the Indian restaurants around it and indulge
yourself in the spices of India.
5. Fort Canning. Amidst the
busy city lies a hidden fortress. Situated on a hill near the shopping
area, here you can have a stroll and enjoy the tranquility that it
offers. Fort canning is filled with historical events. It was a
military base during WWII. Artifacts dating back to the 14th century
have been unearthed and the Fort Gate, remnant of the fortress built in
the 1860s, is a reminder of Singapore's colonial past.
6. Night Safari. Singapore's
very own safari. It is the world's first wildlife park built for night
visits. It offers guest a one of a kind experience of exploring the
tropical jungle at night. There are over 1,000 nocturnal animals of 100
species in vast naturalistic habitats.
7. Sentosa Island. Situated
just off Singapore. It is enveloped by dreamy white sandy beaches and
unpolluted sea water. You can unwind on its soft sandy beach or enjoy
the atmosphere of the many bars and cafes around the island. If you are
feeling adventurous, hike around the island and experience the many
attractions that is available on the island such as the brand new
Universal Studios. Be prepared for a day fun filled with adventures.
8. Orchard Road. Shopping
enthusiast strap on the most comfortable shoe you can find. Here you
will spend hours shopping for designer goods. Internationally
recognized brand names are spread out in the many shopping centres
along Orchard road. You can enjoy great bargains on branded items
during the Great Singapore Sale which is held yearly during the month
of June to July. Almost every items in every corner of every store is
on sale. So get you credit cards ready for a one of a kind shopping
experience and don't forget to leave some cash for the excess baggage
that you will bring back.
9. Sim Lim Square. This is the
electronic and computer hub in Singapore. You'll find the latest
electronic gadgets, computers and computer parts under one roof. If you
are a season bargainer then you might just get a good deal but if you
are an amateur then be careful not to get cheated.
10. Last but not least, Clarke Quay. Here
the night is forever young. The many varieties of pubs, clubs, bars and
cafe will keep you entertained the whole night. Set along the beautiful
Singapore river, Clarke Quay comes alive when night falls. With the
vibrant lights, entertaining live bands and cuisine that tingles your
taste bud, Clarke Quay is great place to unwind and relax or just to
